Time to Orient?

Day one of orientation has come and gone, but fortunately for us we have 4 more days of it. After a quick run around on campus to get our student IDs and email addresses, we had a nice school dinner on campus (almost all of the food is from the school's farm!) and then headed to River View Bar for Margarita Monday.

Sunday Leah and I spent the day wandering through downtown.
It really is "the one and only" Brattleboro...

Cool record shop where I got a pretty funky poster for my bedroom door.

Twice Upon a Time, aka Second Loop, is a huge vintage shop with very
scary mannequins on Main St.

A place for Papa.

New friends. Having lunch downtown. Catherine, Leah, Bailey and Darielle.
(Leah and Darielle are my two roommates!)

Sustainability starts in the bathroom stalls of SIT.

Lost on campus? Not likely.

School store.

I'm thinking about applying to drive the SIT van.
That way I can bedazzle it and call it the A Train.

Enjoying the heat. Yes, it is hot here too.

Yeah, this is our cafeteria...

Looks like Annie is enjoying dinner :)

Enjoying the view.

Riverview Cafe (Bar).
Catherine and the Conn River

More friends!

This is the same river we went canoeing on the other day...

Hey there ladies.

Pink clouds.

And a classic Bailey. I've only known you about 12 hours, but thanks to facebook, it feels like we've all know each other for months ;)

Canoeing, Rope Swings and Beer, Oh my!

Yesterday was the perfect day for a canoe trip! We headed down to the Conn River for a little R&R and some pivo. It was quite the bonding trip- and a great first day with new friends.

Views of the river and the killer boats.

My first friend Chris, and Leah, my new roommate!

Things are looking up...

This place is a legit cabin on the side of the road.

The gorgeous train bridge ran right over our heads.

Picking out paddles. Introducing SIT's Canoe Team.

Getting ready.

"I'm life guard certified in up to four feet of water." Ok, time for the life jackets.

The ladies of the trip: Leah, me, Amy.

Men, men, men, men, men. Chris and Jed play I spy.

So many bridges!

Since I'm very outdoorsy, they let me sit in the middle and just open the beers.
Job well done team.
Enjoying some Pilsner.

Amazing.

We found a rope swing!

The boys investigate.

Jed and Chris.

There they go!

The boys were really into it.

Super Chris. This will win some sort of SIT photo contest.

We pondered the idea of the rope swing while finishing our beers.

Chris.

We decided to do it too. I wasn't so great on the swing, but I gave it a few tries, then decided to go for a swim with Leah.

The CAR BOAT. It's a car and a boat. It has wheels and a motor. Amazing.

Proof of a good day on the water.

The bridge and Amy.

Grabbing a drink with Chris, Annie, Catherine and Leah.
Loving this town and these people already!

More to come soon. Our new roommate Darielle just moved in this afternoon. Looks like a cocktail hour is on the horizon. Here we go grad school!

Brattleboro Food Co-op

As I continue on the trend of "firsts", I am happy to report a very exciting first visit to the Brattleboro Co-op. What a pleasant change of pace, everyone is super friendly and willing to help you out. Leah, one of my new roommies, and I went to check it out this morning!

People walkers, aka pedestrians.

Their nice sign on the way in.

Did you know wine could be separated into such categories?

Jen Dufour, I just want you to know, I've found your christmas present early.

So much cheese, so little time.

Chris wasn't lying, there are tons of weaved baskets.

The isle of death for me. Nuts in bulk.

Collected bee pollen? Still not sure, but it was in the freezer section next to the frozen pizzas.

The outside of this card read: Green is Gorgeous. Can't wait for bday season to begin...

Plenty of good reading ahead.

I am loving this place. So many places to explore, so many rivers to swim in and so many people to meet.

Who's ready for a visit?
